Admission in Braille Institute, Anaheim, California and admission in District High School, Law Mirada, Los Angeles

When we were living in Los Alamos our next-door neighbour became my friend. One day we were sharing our views and during our discussion a point arose about my eye-sight. I told him that my doctor told me that I am legally blind. My neighbour told me that I should go to the Braille Institute, which is about three miles from our residence. One day I went there and I saw the class rooms and the Reception office. I was very much impressed to see the wonderful working and teaching system of the Institute. Looking at everything I made up my mind that after my retirement if I have a chance to stay in America, I would try to get admission here.

In January, 1996 when I again came to the USA I decided to attend classes in the Braille Institute, Anaheim, California for different subjects relating to new vision for the men, women and children who are visually impaired or visually handicapped.

I continued my study and I attended the classes regularly. And I attended classes on different subjects but there were two main subjects i.e.
(1) English second Language and (ii) Independent living skills. With the co-operation and help of the staff of the Institute and class fellows especially my teachers I got a first appreciation in November 1998 as under:

“Mr. Gurubachan Chand has been enrolled in classes at the Braille Institute, Orange County from January 1996 to present. He has successfully completed the following classes:
English as a Second Language
Independent Living Skills
Sensory Awareness
Orientation and Mobility
Stress Management
Invest in Yourself
Successful Aging/Important World Religions
News and Views
Memory Alive

Mr. Chand has excellent attendance and is an enthusiastic student."

Then I went to India and after my return after some month, I again started attending classes in the same institute.
